Zwevegem, November 2022: (Press Release) Betafence invests 10-million-euro into the Zwevegem site to create their largest European distribution centre and a Centre of Excellence in the heart of Belgium, fortifying Zwevegem as the home of world-class, made-to-order fencing solutions.

Betafence announced today an agreed investment of up to 10 million euros, to renovate and modernise the Zwevegem manufacturing facility with state-of-the-art automation, improved onsite facilities and the installation of a new industry-leading Powder Coating Line.

For over 140 years Betafence has pioneered the use of corrosion-resistant coatings, setting industry standards around the world. This incredible investment brings the largest coating line capacity to Belgium. It demonstrates the commitment to the future of the Betafence plant in this region and marks another crucial step in the transition of the Zwevegem site into a major European distribution hub for highly customised, made-to-order fencing solutions.

Bob O’Hagan, European Manufacturing Director:

“To further strengthen Zwevegem’s key role as a distribution hub, Betafence has confirmed 1.5 million euros of investment to be spent on updating automation capabilities for loading, unloading, and packaging, for all Betafence’s popular fence posts used across the European market.

With its new powder coating line, Betafence can now offer the largest coating capacity in Belgium both to support our own business, and to offer coating services to other companies in our industry and beyond. Our newest, fully automated powder coating line can manage 18 tonnes per hour, which means we can accommodate large bespoke orders with a wide variety of coatings and colours. By establishing this in Zwevegem, we can service and supply all of Europe, creating our largest distribution centre in this historic home of Betafence.”

These investments also support the career development of Betafence employees with training and upskilling.

Timothy Messelis, Global Product Management Director, based in Zwevegem:

“Betafence has chosen to invest in areas that expand our offerings and improve our service to customers. By upgrading our automated manufacturing processes, we can ensure that we continue to offer the best quality fencing products in Europe. This is part of a continual investment that will improve our site facilities, the working environment and career development for our Betafence team.”

Committed to the fencing legacy that was born in Zwevegem, and the continued growth of Betafence in Europe, Betafence is welcoming customers old and new to visit the site and take a tour of this incredible powder coating line and on-site testing chambers that make their Zwevegem site a world-class manufacturing facility, and a Centre of Excellence for custom made fencing solutions.
